Most of the diversity in Washington's teacher preparation programs is related to candidates who select Asian or Hispanic. Programs with the highest numbers of underrepresented groups are Central Washington University, Heritage University, University of Washington, and Western Washington University. Heritage University stands out as the program with the highest proportional diversity. At the aggregate, alternative routes are more diverse than traditional.
When considering other states and controlling for size, Washington teacher enrollment diversity is about average. Kentucky, West Virginia, and Nebraska are the least diverse, and District of Columbia, New Mexico, and Hawaii are the most diverse.
